SPENDING TIME IN KIEV December 20, 2008
Well we’ve been here for 3 days and we are still patiently waiting for a modem so that we can have internet at the apartment. We are told that it will happen today or tomorrow.
We are still adjusting to the time difference. Kaiden slept 14 hours one day and then the next day was full of energy. We woke him up early this morning only after 9 hours of sleep to hopefully get on a better schedule. On only 9 hours of sleep we can only imagine how today will be. All in all, we have to admit he has been really good for us. The sleeping on the airplanes, and in the airports went well. He tries all the food and eats some of the things. When eating he often says “It’s not great, but I’ll eat it.” He doesn’t care for the milk or the bread yet. The apple juice is a bit too tart for him. He eats ham, fruit, yogurt, and crackers.
We have been to the big mall here and it feels like home. There are Christmas decorations up, Santa is sitting in a chair waiting for kids to sit on his lap, and the stores are busy with shoppers. We went into a toy store and boy was Kaiden amazed to see that in Ukraine they have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spiderman, and Star Wars light sabers. Lots of things are different here for him so this was quite a shock! We bought some scissors and other craft materials to keep him occupied. In the corner of this toy store was an indoor playground for kids. It was like a mini Fun Factory! Kaiden had a play and I shopped. This store has kids clothes, strollers, and every kind of toy. I am sure we will be back there in the next couple of days.
We’ve been playing Uno in the evenings. The first night Kaiden was the winner of the night - he won 6 games. Last night Darryl won the most games he beat Kaiden by winning the last game. Hopefully my night will be tonight. After Kaiden’s bath we have been watching a movie. So far we’ve watched Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.
The weather here is better than what you guys have at home but it is still ‘wintery’. Yesterday it was -2 C and freezing rain. This make walking on the sidewalks very difficult. Today looks like about -2 C and foggy. Darryl’s prediction is that the sun will shine about mid-May!
Our facilitator is confident that we will have our second appointment on Wednesday December 24th. If all goes well we could meet our child on Christmas Day! What a present!
Take Care,
Darryl, Jeremy & Kaiden.

We are glad to hear that you have settled in and that Kaiden has done so well - that is wonderful. We are sorry to hear about the 1st appointment but will pray that your child will ready for you on the 24th - it truly would be an amazing Christmas gift to meet Kaiden's sibling on the 25th!
Blessings to you all,
Shona, Darren and Ivanna
Greetings to your family from ours. Ahh that is so wonderful what a great Christmas gift that will be, hey I might win the baby pool. It was so good to hear from you. Uno is one of my families favorites to play too. Yesterday was Dawson's birthday so we celebrated it by going to Montana's for supper. He wasn't impressed when they put the hat with antlers on, made his stand on his chair and sang happy birthday. Yes that was our goal to embarass him on his 10th birthday!! We also went to Ruckers, and the Enchanted Forest. Oh Dawson told me to tell you he that he really enjoyed Mrs. Pilot as a teacher. They made some beautiful Christmas decorations for our tree. He says that he misses you- me too!! Ray is shovelling the driveway, yes he was happy he got to use the snowblower this week. It was a lot of indoor recesses all week... We're opening our presents after church tonight. We are having Genest Christmas tomorrow, the boys will sleep over with their cousins for a couple of nights. We are off to my parent's farm for a week, and we'll be there Christmas Day this yr. There will be 17 of us all together. The kids are getting so excited.
take care
Cindy, Ray, Dawson and Nolan

We are very happy to hear you made it there and sound like you are settling in o.k. The weather is still like the north pole here but we did get the girls out on the skidoo's today anyways and we all survived! We will all be praying for your christmas miracle and look forward to the updates. Keep safe and healthy!

We were extremely relieved to have finally heard from you and that you have arrived safe and sound. We were disappointed to know that your first appointment did not go near what you had expected. I know that you believe in 'fate' and that your blessing at Christmas was delayed for a reason. I am happy to hear that Kaiden has adapted as well as he has and is willing to try so many different foods - you are very fortunate. I just got home from Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart and suprisingly it was not very busy at 1:00 a.m.!?! Rather relaxing actually, must have been the Tim Horton's coffee. Braden's class went to the WDM on Tuesday and Christmas concert was on Thursday; relieved that his nerves didn't get to him and that all went well. His last hockey game was today and Santa showed up to play goal, nice touch although he was disappointed to know that his coach was trying to fool them with the 'fake' Santa Claus - apparently he caught on becuase he didn't look like the Santa at the mall. I am happy to hear that your weather is much better than ours. It seems that we are in a deep freeze we can't seem to get out of. Well should catch a few minutes of sleep.
Bye for now! My thoughts and prayers are with you constantly.
Love always,
Nick, Brenda Lee, Braden and Riley
