We've had a better day today! We got to experience some 'firsts'. We went shopping this morning and we bought Kallie her first sleeper. (it's pink!) We also bought our first pack of diapers for us to use on her. She is right between stage 3 and stage 4 so we decided to buy stage 3 for now. We only bought a small package, 16 diapers since we have to pack lightly until we relocate to Kiev.
When we went to the orphanage Kallie was on her way to the Nurse's room to get a needle. We believe she was getting an immunization because there was big line up of children at the Nurse's room.
After her needle we asked (using sign language) if we could take Kallie outside for 10 minutes. They said yes! We took her jacket, mitts, toque, and extra pants and tights. They got her all dressed up for us and we headed out. Kallie seemed very unsure of what was going on. We tried to get her to smile but she wasn't comfortable enough. We put her down to walk and she wouldn't go by the snow. We tried to get her to touch the snow but there was no way. Eventually she walked on the snow but that was as far as she would go. I set her down on a piece of playground equipment and she fussed right away. We believe that this was possibly her first time ever outside. We ended up staying out for 15 mins (Oooopppps!) Her little nose turned pink and she had a nice colour to her once we came in. Kallie experienced a first and so did Kaiden. This was the first time he was allowed to play outside since we've been in Ukraine. He made snowballs and jumped around the entire time. Oh what a feelin! We are hoping that we can go outside for the rest of our visits. It sure helped past the time and gave us something new to look at.
Of course we snapped some pictures but she was exactly smiling in any of them. We are sure that soon she will love the outdoors like any other kid. Having a big brother that loves to be outside she really doesn't have much of a choice.
We have started a countdown - only 7 visits to go and she is OURS!
Love,
The Decks

Hi! Kaiden and Daryl look so proud as they are crouching down beside Kallie!! You just want to hug Kallie and Kaiden as they look so huggable!! What cuties!! That is amazing that Kallie might not have been outside before. Just think of all the "firsts" you guys are going to have with her. Only seven more days!! Wow!!! The time is almost here! Do you go back to Kiev after the 7 days? Then what? Wait for the passport? I am glad that today seemed better for you. How about the food - discovered anything good to eat today? Take care and know that we are thinking about you on this wonderful journey of yours!
Boy thats sad to hear that a child at that age wasn't outside yet.It kinda puts atear in your eye,I wonder if you's weren't adopting her how long it takes before some of thoes kids get to enjoy the out doors.I sure think that PINK is definitely her color.Kaiden sounds like he's ready to bring his sister home, and show her off.We are praying that things speed up so you can get back to Kiev that will be one step closer to home.Hang in there the wait is definetly worth it and the memories of Ukraine will be behind but of couse not forgotten. We are thinking of yous always Love the Bassets
Look at those cheeks! Definitely pinchable!!! I will admitt I was one of "those aunties" that said Kallie looked better in pink than blue!!! Who wants to argue with me???? I too find it sad that this may have been Kallie's first experience with snow. Kallie is very lucky to have you there to bring her home! 7 day count down is on - great! We are counting down with you! We look forward to your blogs to learn about the progress you are making (or not making) unitl next time, take care! Lori
Oh Jeremy how excited of a day you bought her first pink sleeper! We had our educational assistant conference today - I managed to shop @Winners during my lunch break. I bought Nolan a Star Wars t-shirt and Dawson some adidas shorts for track.. was checking the girl clothes, what size is Kallie? I love shopping for girls.. so let me know. Oh Kaiden must have been so happy to be out in the snow. I know how the boys felt after only 2 wks of no going outdoors. I bought shovels for them and they even shovelled the driveway for Ray one night. It was real cute they said "Dad, we did the driveway, so you don't have to after supper!" That is so great that it's only 7 days - countdowns are always good. I've been counting the days until we're in Punta Cana as well. I'm glad to hear your family is having a much better time!!

Mom and Shawna have take care of your e-mail request. That is so funny because Charlee had a pink and black jacket that was very similar to Kallie's. You guys have a good memory, Charlee was also around the same age as Kallie when she wore it. I guess we have similar taste in fashion. Now Charlee isn't feeling great so her and I are going to cuddle up and watch American Idol, she likes the show. Nice pictures I LOVE her in ink!!!!!
